She married twice, had many lovers and friends including Maurice Chevalier, Cocteau, Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour and Marlene Dietrich. The great love of her life was the boxer Marcel Cerdan, who was killed in a plane crash in 1949.

In 1952 Ernest Hemingway described her magnetism, saying, “If she had nothing more than her voice, she could break your heart with it.” Dietrich was granted American citizenship in 1939. In addition to being pals with Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland, Piaf is credited with helping the careers of French singers Charles Aznavour and Yves Montand… In the 2007 film La Vie En Rose, Piaf as an adult was portrayed by Marion Cotillard, who won the Academy Award as best actress for the role.
