Here you will see each elite that you can train and how many Hero Points you will need to unlock both traits and skills that will unlock those for character. You need to have collected Hero Challenges in maps and you get it faster from HoT, PoF and EoD maps. Each time you commute with a HC in expansion maps you will get more points, then from

Hero Points. During the leveling process (from 1 to 80) and through World Completion, there are a total of 398 Hero Points available. To gain access to your elite specialization, you first need to unlock all core skills and traits by accessing your training tab: you press H and select Training.
As others stated above, it's more like 2hrs to create a new character and farm the necessary hero points for an elite spec (including at least 30min to click through all the reward chests for levelling up with lvl60-boosts and Tomes of Knowledge).
Posted October 28, 2021. If you check the points tree of Mech or other new elite its the same with the old elite spec,so its 250! In case you dont know it,you can get the points really fast from WvW ventor, only thing you need is to have Proofs of Heroics or Testimonies of Heroics!
That character can instantly get next elite spec in the future expansion thats about it mate.EditI for one rather have that then zero extra and having to do everything when said expansion hits, look how people moan that its to few easy mastery points in central tyria for example do you really want the same to be said about hero points? You need somewhat 250 (or 255?) points to fully unlock a single elite spec. You can easily get into hero point train (a group that does a lot of hero points in a row to help new people unlock stuff or farm map currencies by doing hero points repeatedly). m4xH1. 317 499 118 364 277 356 265 246 204
